Student Class Descriptions
Our Combo I and II classes incorporate the works of classical composers....
The works of classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and others will engage your child’s mind and enhance creativity and problem-solving. Studies show that “children who grow up listening to music develop strong music-related connections,” and that the “complexity of classical music is what primes the brain to solve spatial problems more quickly” (Diane Bales, Ph.D.).
Creative Movement-Age 2 - 3 yrs
These young students will be introduced to Classical Music, Ballet, Tumbling, Tap, Singing, Creative Movement, and will hone valuable listening skills. Classes will be an hour of fun, creativity and imagination. Students will present one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
2 Year Combo
Combo II is a whimsical, creative introduction to Classical Music, Ballet, Tumbling and Tap. Students will present one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Combo III-Age 4 - 5 yrs
Combo III is an entertaining and fun class focused on Classical Music, Ballet and Tap. Students will learn the fundamentals of each dance form and perform two stage numbers at the end-of-year concert. Parents will be amazed at the end of the class when their child can “Name that Classical Tune” and identify composers by name.
Combo IV (pre-K) Age 5 - 6 yrs
Combo IV is an entertaining and fun class focused on Classical Music, Ballet and Tap. Students will learn the fundamentals of each dance form and perform two stage numbers at the end-of-year Recital. Parents will be amazed at the end of the class when their child can “Name that Classical Tune” and identify composers by name.
Mini Jazz Ages 3-5 yrs
Mini Jazz is a great way to get up and move! Students will learn fun and energetic dance movement to faster music. They will be introduced to basic Jazz technique, Hip-hop movement, flexibility and cheer dance. Students will perform one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Dance N’ Play Ages 2 ½ - 5 yrs
Dance N’ Play will be one hour of Classical Ballet and Tap then 45 minutes of dance enrichment. Students will learn the history of dance and additional French terminology for ballet, and will be exposed to the works of well-known dancers and music of renowned composers. Studio A’s magical dress-up trunk, stocked with vintage hats, tutus, feather boas and other fun costumes, will spark the imagination and creativity of each and every dancer. Students will perform two stage numbers at the end-of-year Recital.
Ballet K-2nd grade
Classes are specifically designed for students’ grade levels. Students will learn proper body placement and terminology for Classical Ballet. Classes will be 45 minutes long. Students will present one ballet number in the end-of-year Recital.
Tap/Jazz Combo K-2nd grade
These classes will be engaging and focused on Tap and Jazz education. Students will spend 45 minutes on each subject and will present two stage numbers at the end-of-year Recital.
Hip hop K-2nd Grade
Hip hoppers will enjoy a 30 minute, energy filled class dancing to appropriate popular music. The students will be introduced to hip hop choreography and present one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Beginner/Intermediate Classes (3rd grade and up)
These classes are 45 minutes of training in Ballet, Tap and Jazz. Students will learn fundamentals and technique in these disciplines in a class perfectly timed for beginners with an interest in dance. Each beginner/intermediate class will perform one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Intermediate Classes (4th grade and up)
Intermediate classes offered in Ballet, Tap and Jazz. Requires teacher approval. Each Intermediate class will perform one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Intermediate/Advanced Classes (6th Grade and Up)
Intermediate/Advanced classes offered in Ballet, Tap and Jazz. Requires teacher approval. Each Intermediate/Advanced class will perform one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Beginning Pointe and Pointe
These classes are by teacher approval. Beginning pointe will prepare students to be on pointe the following year.
Hip hop
Classes are offered at all levels for boys & girls. Each hip hop class will perform one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Lyrical
Lyrical teaches a combination of Ballet technique and Jazz technique. Classes are offered at all levels. Each class will perform one stage number at the end-of-year Recital.
Competitive Company
Company placement requires an audition and offers a separate set of classes and rehearsals.
Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre is an audition-based program providing performance opportunities and preparing students for professional musical theatre performances.
Ballet Corps
Placement requires an audition and offers a separate set of classes and rehearsals.
